The band were saddened to learn of the death of one of our former players, the Rev. Dick Dengate in late January of this year. A small group from Cranbrook Town Band had the privilege of playing at the funeral in St. Peter and Paul’s Church, Peasmarsh on the afternoon of the 28th February.
Dick was a committed member of the band for many years in the 1970s and 80s and would always turn up at a local concert to say hello. Despite leaving the band many years ago, there are still several of us who remember the time Dick spent in the band and to put it simply, a nicer man you could not meet. He was never seen without a smile on his face and a kind word for someone in his mouth.
What was obviously a sad occasion was enlivened by the many anecdotes that were related to the packed out church during the service and afterwards.
RIP Dick Dengate – a real gent in the every sense of the word.
With sympathy about Dick Dengate passing away.
