Cranbrook Town Band performed at Hole Park in Rolvenden on Tuesday 8th July in aid of the Army’s national charity, The Army Benevolent Fund.
On a very sunny evening in what was turning out to be a very hot summer, the band were very grateful for a spacious marquee under which to play. The programme as befitting the theme of the event was comprised totally of Marches at the request of the organiser and while this was unusual for the band and caused our “March King” MD a few headaches in rehearsals, we never the less, rose to the occasion and gave a good account of the programme much to the delight of the audience while they enjoyed their drinks and canapes at the reception. All too soon the band’s hour slot was up and we handed over to the army.
Khukuri Fighting Skills were demonstrated by the Queen’s Gurkha Engineers and a performance from the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas followed for the Beating Retreat and The Last Post flag lowering ceremony which concluded the event some time later.

You missed a wonderful evening and CTB performed absolutely brilliantly with wonderful music, before the Gurkha band then gave a stupendous display of their own. It was all the most perfect evening and I hope your musicians enjoyed playing as much as we enjoyed hearing it.
I look forward to finding another reason or excuse to have CTB at Hole Park.
Would you please pass on our thanks to all the players and support members.
