A 70th Birthday, whilst becoming more common these days, is still a major milestone in life and Yvette Hutchin, who plays 3rd cornet, decided that she would like to mark hers with a party involving her family and the musical organisations that she is associated with.
The band were delighted to play although with a little trepidation at first as the ‘Concert Theatre’ in her Village Hall was rather on the small side. Having thought about this issue carefully, I advised the audience to turn their hearing aids down whilst the band were playing and back up again whilst I was talking – problem solved. The occasion proved to be a super opportunity to run some of our 2018 tour programme in public and the band rose to the challenge with some excellent playing that was, if the comments afterwards are to be believed, thoroughly appreciated by all those there.
