Once again the band was delighted to play for the St Dunstan’s Church Festival on 19th May this year. In an astute change to the long established festival timetable, the Vicar requested that the band perform on Sunday afternoon rather than the previous evening. This turned out to be a remarkably good move, as it resulted in the audience size doubling from previous events and will hopefully be repeated in this format in future years.
Beginning with Alan Fernie’s Prismatic Light the band was on top form throughout, to the evident delight of both the audience and Ian Lanceley, the band’s MD. As usual, the varied programme as shown below, included a number of soloists who all performed excellently. Additionally, the concert also featured the Youth Band, conducted and trained by Robin Traves. Their set, consisting of six short pieces was a delight to see and hear

The concert ended with an encore from the pen of Colin Batt, the band’s principal trombone player. This was the World Premiere of Baroque ‘n Roll – a fusion of George Frideric Handel’s La Rejouissance and John Stanley’s Trumpet Tune. Sadly, Colin missed it as he was off on a cruise!
