All You Need is love !
Cranbrook Town Band played during the wedding of the band’s Chairman, David, and occasional second percussionist, Rebecca on 24 June 2006 at Cranbrook Church .They entertained the congregation prior to the service with a variety of numbers before accompanying the soprano soloist in Puccini’s ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ for the bridal procession. All the hymns were performed by the band, including ‘At the Name of Jesus’, which was specially arranged by the bride’s sister, ‘Love Divine’ and a rousing version of ‘Dear Lord and Father of Mankind’.
The couple chose the gentle ‘Amazing Grace’ to accompany the signing of the register, but they didn’t count on the band deciding to enliven the atmosphere with a performance of ‘Singing in the Rain’ as the bridal party made their way to the high altar for the blessing! Toes tapped in the congregation and the bride and groom fought off the urge to do a little impromptu tap dance number – and thankfully the weather was glorious!
Finally, the band played ‘All you need is Love’ for the recessional – the trombones loved this one in particular! – followed immediately by the march ‘Death or Glory’, to send the happy couple off into married life. Many of the guests commented on how much they had enjoyed listening to the band and how they had really helped to contribute to the occasion.
David and Rebecca are very grateful to everyone for giving up their time to play and have fantastic memories of the service.
