August Charity Concert
Undoubtedly the highlight of the year from a playing point of view was the charity fundraising event held Ashford Church. Aptly named “Copper beats Brass” the concert included a number of favourites from our summer programme as well as two pieces each from guest Soloists Tabitha Hall and James Clegg. In addition Weald area Police Commander Supt. David Pryer conducted the band for a rousing version of Pomp and Circumstance. In all well over £700 was raised for the Hospice on the Hill.

Weald area police commander Supt David Pryer gave his marching orders on Saturday to aid the Hospice on the Hill to the tune of more than £700. It wasn’t a quick march and it wasn’t a slow march, it was a perfect Pomp and Circumstance.
Supt Pryer, who cannot read music, but who knows how it should sound, was sponsored to conduct the Cranbrook Town Band at a Copper Beats Brass concert in St Mary’s Ashford.
Organiser Sally Coleman, Neighbourhood Watch liaison office, said: “He made it look easy. In fact he was offered the job of conductor on the spot.” The cornet soloist was Tabby Hall, with James Clegg, from Yorkshire, on Tenor Horn.
Cranbrook Town Band played a full programme of favourites.
The audience stood in silent tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack on New York when “Little Prayer” was played.
