A report from the SCABA Autumn Contest 14-Oct-00.

This week the Cranbrook Town Band are celebrating another contesting trophy. The band achieved 3rd place in the second section of the SCABA Autumn Contest. Previous rehearsals the week before had seen much debate about the band withdrawing after local bad weather, flooding and work commitments had meant the band had been unable to get together for a full rehearsal for some months.

However after so much hard work by the band and fantastic weekend rehearsals with guest conductor “Richard Evans”, a noted musician and adjudicator himself, the committee decided to enter the contest as planned. The second section included 13 bands, a particularly large number of entries and the band were drawn to play in the middle of the first half of the section at 4:00pm.

Playing the hymn Hyfrodol and “Three Saints” as the main piece the band were awarded 183 marks by adjudicator Derek Broadbent and were just pipped by Battle Town Band for 2nd place and Woking Brass for 1st. Our congratulations to them and many thanks to all band members and the percussion section who were drafted in on short notice and who put in extra effort over the previous months.
